Gold Nanoparticles Make More Flexible Electronics
By embedding tiny pieces of gold in polyurethane, researchers have developed a stretchable, flexible conductor that could bring us a step closer to truly “foldable” devices.
The technology, created by a team from the University of Michigan, involves depositing layers of gold particles between layers of polyurethane. Rather than moving further apart when the polymer was stretched, the tiny gold particles arranged themselves into chains, allowing the material to remain conductive even when stretched to almost six times its original length.
