Coffee Association of Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak) handed in a registration record in order to protect a collective trademark "Buon Ma Thuot Coffee" in foreign countries where U.S, Germany, UK, Canada, South Korea rejected the application on the grounds such as Buon Ma Thuot is a geographical name that imply source of coffee products, none is proprietary (including associations), the words "Buon Ma Thuot coffee" is used as a brand that is not be able to distinguish.

Some countries refused because of registration of trademark "Buon Ma Thuot Coffee", confused with a previously protected trademark. Through this work, the experts in intellectual property, said that the coffee businesses is noteworthy, nobody is proprietary a brand that is geographical name (Buon Ma Thuot) - indicate origin of coffee products.
