In the past few years, the movement of raising freshwater fish has been widely applied by Vinh Loi farmer. It’s up to the area condition, water environment and capital, the farmer chose to grow various objects but the income is not so impressive.

The local authority said that the commune economy mostly relied on agricultural production, due to poverty, the farmers tried to implement various production models such as raising shrimps, planting fruit trees...but the model didn’t bring economic efficiency.

Due to its imperativeness, in the early 2012, Bac Lieu DOST coordinated Can Tho University to help farmers raise snakeshin gourami. When taking part in this program, the farmer will receive directions from a technical team such as renovating ponds, choosing varieties, breeding,  caring techniques and farming commercial techniques.

Model of raising snakeshin gourami has opened a way for farmers. This is an efficient economic model that helps farmers improve income. It is necessary to expand the model in the future in order to break the rice monoculture.
