Raising pigeons
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Chi, Tan Thuan Village, Tan Hoi Commune, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province, in 2006, thank to an article that she knew model of raising pigeons as a chance. Thus, she and her husband decided to take a trip to HCM city for learning as well as buying 10 couples of pigeon for testing.

At first, she raised in traditional ways (free-range) which put pigeons in its shelter to be acquainted for 10 days, then they were free to look for foods by themselves. Sometimes she feeds them with extra foods such as rice or corns.

This is very simple way to raise pigeons with low cost. However, this method is only suitable with some species of pigeons, and it is not appropriate for large scales because it is difficult to mange quantity and diseases. In addition, in the recent moment, H5N1 can burst at any time.

Therefore, in 2010, she turned to raise pigeons in semi-captive way and industrial scale. Shelter was made with 3.5 m in height and surrounded with B40 fences. The ground was scattered with sands which make it easy to clean. This way would help control management and diseases easily.

Mrs. Chi Emphasized that raising pigeons is far easier than chickens because of its breeding properties, a cycle of breeding is  about 30 – 35 days, 8 – 10 farrows every year. From 10 couples of initial pigeons, she developed up to 700 – 800 couples. There were  100 bird seeds which were sold monthly with the price of 100.000 VND/bird and 500 young birds with selling price of 50.000 VND/bird.

Raising pigeons breeds, her family has stable income about 20 million VND/month.  Learning according to Mrs. Chi, many people have also succeeded like her.
