The Directorate is also implementing a national database of barcodes to support businesses and consumers to easily retrieve the origin of goods and support the export of Vietnamese products to international markets.

Currently, the Prime Minister has also approved the "Project for deploying, applying and managing the traceability system" with the goal to build and operate the product and national goods traceability portal by 2020.

By 2030, the Portal will access national products and goods origin, ensure the demand for information exchange and exploitation of domestic and international enterprises, organizations and individuals; perfecting the management and updating system of domestic and international product and goods databases.

Vietnam currently has more than 25,000 codes granted to businesses to manage goods. The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, the Ministry of Science and Technology is the state administrative management agency for barcodes. Since 1995, the International Barcode Organization (GS1) has granted Vietnam national code number 893.

Since the third quarter of 2019, GS1, which Vietnam will be a member, requires all enterprises with export goods to update and synchronize all seven properties of goods according to barcode on the cloud data system (iCloud).
