On July 10, in Ho Chi Minh City, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam and the Southern Working Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized the Workshop "Solutions to improve the effectiveness of protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights for start-up innovation businesses.”
According to Mr. Pham Xuan Da, Director of the Southern Work Department, although the start-up movement is growing strongly, innovative start-up businesses face many difficulties, one of which is not much knowledge about identifying and evaluating intellectual properties, while this is an extremely important step, determining the potential of intellectual property of each enterprise.
Agreeing with the opinion of Mr. Da, Mr. Bui Van Quyen, Vice President of the Vietnam Patent Association, said that "intellectual property training in universities is a compulsory subject, especially in technical schools. Trained from within the university, after graduating from university, students will have enough knowledge about IP to start a business, participate in training courses, intensive training on IP.
A recent survey of the Center for Science and Technology Application and Service of the Southern Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology shows that 87% of the innovation enterprises surveyed in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southwest region are interested in training about intellectual property management in the business.
Mr. Tran Giang Khue, Deputy Division, in charge of Representative Office of the NOIP in Ho Chi Minh City, noted that businesses need to look up IP information to guide research, product development, investment decisions and etc. Because IP laws do not protect creative ideas, business ideas should businesses "avoid disclosing ideas, technological solutions, business practices and take appropriate security measures in accordance with each stage of the innovation start-up process, including security measures within the startup group, ”said Mr. Khue.
Sharing experiences in the protection and exploitation of intellectual property, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Director of Elink Gate Joint Stock Company, a startup specializing in connection solutions and control of smart devices from a distance, arguing that the IP registration gives businesses many benefits, such as protection of rights for competitors, safe technology transfer, easy access to investors or convenience in capital contribution by IP. Therefore, innovative startups should register for intellectual property rights as soon as possible. Mr. Hoang also wants state management agencies to take measures to support startup businesses to innovate in IP registration and connect professional intellectual property partners in each technology field.
