Thanks to his perseverance in learning, gaining experiences, choosing a lotus variety suitable for the soil here, plus the support of family and friends for capital, in 2021, he separated and opened his own business, expanding the area to 22 hectares, mainly growing lotus for tubers. This is also the first lotus growing model in Bac Giang province and so far he can propagate himself, so he can actively source seeds for the following crops, greatly reducing the cost of buying seedlings.

Mr. Hoi shared, lotus plants are easy to grow, less susceptible to pests and diseases, just need to prepare the soil carefully, fertilize with manure, and hardly have to use pesticides. Currently, I grow lotus for tubers with 2 varieties of fragrant lotus and sweet lotus (mainly). In addition, I grow lotus for flowers to produce tea, lotus for flowers as an ornamental, and lotus for a bowl to collect seeds. Lotus tuber is planted 2 crops/year. The fresh products from lotus of Mr. Hoi's family have signed a contract to regularly supply to a number of production and processing facilities in Hanoi 10 tons of fresh lotus leaves/month, 1,000 flowers/day in the flower season (April to June), sliced lotus tubers of 100 kg/day. In addition, supplying to markets in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and some northern provinces.

Thanks to favorable weather, intensive farming with correct techniques, the yield of lotus incense is about 12.5 tons/ha, the selling price ranges from 25-30 thousand VND/kg; Sweet lotus yields nearly 22.2 tons/ha, selling prices range from 18-20 thousand VND/kg. Excluding costs, growers earn an average profit of more than 138 million VND/ha, after 6 months of planting, many times higher than rice cultivation. With an area of 22 hectares of lotus growing for harvesting fresh bulbs (550 tons), lotus leaves (90 tons), flowers (45,000 flowers), bowls and teas, the revenue is more than 13 billion VND, the profit is more than 4 billion VND, creating jobs and income for dozens of local workers.
