Exploiting scientific and technological information sources to serve scientific research and innovation
In recent times, the Vietnam Library Consortium on Science and Technology Information Resources has introduced a rich source of information to the community of researchers, lecturers and students, changing the style of learning and research, contributing to strengthening international integration, and improving the ability to access the Industrial Revolution 4.0 for Vietnamese people.

In December 2004, the Vietnam Library Consortium on Science and Technology Information Sources was established, with the National Science and Technology Information Agency (Ministry of Science and Technology) as the coordinating agency. From 26 initial members, after 20 years of continuous development, the number of units participating in the Consortium has increased to nearly 100 units, with over 40 units annually contributing funds to purchase shared science and technology databases.

At the Vietnam Library Consortium Conference on Science and Technology Information Resources in 2024 on August 17, the National Agency for Science and Technology Information said that in the past year, the Vietnam Library Consortium continued to coordinate to supplement the ProQuest Central database, which is effectively used by members to serve research and training activities. This is a multidisciplinary database, including 25 multidisciplinary databases, processing over 19,000 journals, of which more than 13,000 are full-text journals.

This database also provides the full text of 56,000 theses in the fields of psychology, business, physical sciences, medicine, education, and provides concise information on economics and business through reports from hundreds of industries in 90 countries, providing 43,000 business profiles, collecting over 1,000 conference papers and 1,300 international newspapers, including leading US newspapers, such as The Wall Street Journal. Exploiting and using the ProQuest database effectively leads to a decrease in the average cost per article downloaded over the years.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh said that the activities of the Vietnam Library Consortium on science and technology information resources have made an important contribution to the implementation of the Law on Science and Technology, the Law on Libraries, Project 1285 on the development of science and technology information resources and the National Digital Transformation Program. In the context of strong digital transformation, research, development and innovation activities have many new requirements for organizations providing information services and science and technology libraries.

These new trends further affirm the important role of the Vietnam Library Consortium in terms of scientific and technological information resources in linking and promoting common initiatives on digital transformation, but also pose challenges requiring the Consortium to transform strongly to create new driving forces for development, not just stopping at simply coordinating activities to supplement information resources.
