"Luc Ngan" orange is protected by geographical indication
Luc Ngan oranges stand out with three main varieties: CS1 oranges, Duong Canh oranges and V2 oranges. Of which, Duong Canh oranges have beautiful, red ripe fruit with a rich sweet taste, while V2 oranges, also known as yellow-heart oranges, are larger in size, ripe yellow, with a sweet and characteristic aroma.

The orange growing area in Luc Ngan district is up to about 1,530 hectares, with an output of about 6,086 tons per year, accounting for more than 90% of the orange growing area in Bac Giang province. Orange growing methods are applied according to VietGAP process, ensuring quality, beautiful appearance and delicious taste. Orange harvest time usually takes place from November of the previous year to January of the following year.
The development of Luc Ngan oranges is supported by ideal natural conditions with fertile soil and favorable climate. Orange varieties originating from other places become special when grown here, thanks to the careful care of farmers. Orange trees are grown on hilly land with good drainage, giving the product a sweet taste and superior quality compared to other regions. Luc Ngan district is currently the second largest fruit growing area, after lychee, in both area and output.
On April 2, 2025, the National Office of Intellectual Property issued Decision No. 252/QD-SHTT, recognizing geographical indication No. 00144 for Luc Ngan orange products, with the People's Committee of Luc Ngan district as the management agency. This geographical area includes Chu town and communes, such as Thanh Hai, Kien Lao, Bien Son, and many other communes in Luc Ngan district. To improve product quality, orange growers here also apply the technique of ringing the roots and branches, helping to accumulate nutrients for the fruit and limit the amount of water absorbed from the roots. Thanks to the geographical conditions and special care techniques, Luc Ngan oranges have built a reputation and brand in the market, especially in the southern provinces, where sweet fruits are popular.
