Australian Deputy Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Brent Stewart, affirmed that Australia is committed to supporting Vietnam in its transition to sustainable agriculture and adaptation to climate change.

Australian projects, through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), focus on improving farming techniques, reducing risks and helping farmers, researchers and local communities achieve practical benefits. For example, the V-SCOPE project in the Central Highlands helps smallholder farmers improve productivity, use water and land resources efficiently, and gain easier access to consumer markets.
In addition, Australian projects are being implemented in key areas, such as the Mekong Delta, where farmers are facing increasing salinity. Research to identify salt-tolerant crops and appropriate land use strategies helps farmers adapt better, increase incomes and ensure food security for communities. These activities have created significant positive impacts, contributing to reducing the damage caused by climate change in the agricultural sector.
In addition to support from international projects, Australian-owned private enterprises, such as Orlar are also contributing to promoting sustainable transformation in Vietnamese agriculture. Orlar applies modern vertical farming technology to grow crops with minimal water and without soil, suitable for increasingly harsh climate conditions. The Australian Government has provided financial support to help the company expand its operations from a pilot model to a full farm in Long An, thereby contributing to improving efficiency, minimizing the negative impacts of climate change and promoting more sustainable development of Vietnamese agriculture in the future. |
