Long An: Selecting six lotus varieties for wetlands
The project team focused on researching and perfecting lotus breeding processes suitable for flower, seed, shoot and root groups, and also developed techniques for cultivating, harvesting, processing and preserving lotus products to improve productivity and quality.

Thanks to these technical advances, the group's lotus production model in Tan Thanh district with a scale of 1 hectare for seeds and 1 hectare for shoots has brought higher economic efficiency than the traditional method, increasing from 10 to 18%, mainly due to the use of new lotus varieties with higher productivity and fewer pests and diseases.

Not only stopping at research and testing, the group also organized training courses on cultivation, harvesting, processing and preservation of lotus to transfer knowledge and improve skills for local households. These activities aim to replicate the success of the project, contribute to promoting sustainable development of lotus cultivation in the locality, and at the same time help people increase income and stabilize production.

The project has been accepted by the Department of Science and Technology of Long An with excellent evaluation results. This success not only reflects the quality of the research project but also opens up many prospects for the development of lotus production in Long An, contributing to promoting the local economy and preserving lotus varieties suitable for the natural conditions of low-lying areas and riverside acid sulfate soils.
