Effective disease management is essential for the sustainable development of brackish water shrimp farming
(CT) - The City Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection Department, the City Agricultural Extension and Services Center, the Can Tho City Farmers' Association, and related units recently coordinated to organize a seminar to assess the current situation of shrimp farming in 2025 and solutions for the 2026 crop season for shrimp farmers in Khanh Hoa ward

At the seminar, speakers introduced the high-tech, closed-loop shrimp farming model of the Joint Stock Company; the prevention and treatment of some common shrimp diseases; and recommendations for effective shrimp farming solutions for the 2026 shrimp farming season. They also provided information on some policies for farmers developing economic models; and policies of aquatic feed and medicine distributors for shrimp farmers…

Shrimp farmers asked the speaker questions about how to handle shrimp diseases; how to manage ponds during unusual weather conditions, especially during periods of hot weather, drought, and saltwater intrusion; techniques for preparing ponds before stocking; and effective shrimp farming models to increase productivity.

At the seminar, Mr. Do Van Thua, Deputy Head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Inspection Department of Can Tho City, shared that to ensure the sustainable development of brackish water shrimp farming, the unit will coordinate with relevant units to strengthen inspection, quality control of shrimp fry; regularly monitor and warn the environment to promptly advise and warn farmers... At the same time, they will guide disease prevention and control measures, implement effective technical solutions for efficient shrimp farming, minimize losses for farmers; and expand the 2- and 3-stage shrimp farming model. Shrimp farmers need to develop plans and prepare the necessary conditions to proactively produce in difficult conditions such as drought, saltwater intrusion, and environmental fluctuations that easily lead to disease outbreaks; link production in a chain to reduce intermediaries, lower production costs, and improve product quality; and apply farming methods certified by VietGAP, GlobalGAP, ASC, etc.
