Developing digital skills for students
In the context of the strong digital transformation taking place in all areas of social life, equipping students with digital skills has become an urgent need. The Youth Union and Student Association branches in Can Tho City have implemented many models of education on digital knowledge and skills to help students use technology devices and digital platforms safely and effectively, contributing to the formation of a generation of digital citizens.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Secretary of the Youth Union and Head of the Skills Department at Hoa Binh International Primary, Secondary, and High School (Cai Khe Ward), if students are properly equipped with digital skills, they will not only use technology and digital platforms effectively for learning, but they will also develop logical thinking and cultivate their talents in the field of information technology. The school's Youth Union has organized training on software using artificial intelligence (AI) to design images and create videos; implemented the "Young Informatics" competition, and creative competitions for teenagers and children organized by the City Youth Union and various departments and agencies... In February 2026, students from the school won 1 second prize, 1 third prize, and 1 consolation prize in the STEM competition organized by the City Department of Education and Training.

From February to May 2026, Hoa Binh International Primary, Secondary, and High School organized a school-level STEM competition, receiving a positive response from students. Nguyen Duc Minh, a Geography teacher, said: “I was in charge of guiding students in designing a flood warning model combined with floating houses to respond to climate change. The model was designed based on knowledge and practical skills from physics, mathematics, geography, and technology. I coordinated with teachers of related subjects to advise and support the students in completing the project.” Students applied theoretical knowledge to design STEM models, which helped improve practical skills and fostered creativity and scientific research abilities. In addition, the school's Youth Union also coordinated with students to apply AI and software for learning, extracurricular activities, and scientific research.

Besides academic activities related to information technology, youth union branches in the city organize many activities to support students in improving their digital skills. By March 2026, all 118 units under the City Youth Union will each organize one activity to support union members and young people in enhancing their digital capabilities, such as: training in using artificial intelligence in learning, work, and entrepreneurship; providing free computer classes; and building eight "Digital Space for Children" models in suburban communes. For example, the Youth Union of the School of Information Technology and Communications (Can Tho University) established a team to train students in digital skills in communes and wards. From July 2025 to the present, they have trained nearly 2,000 students in digital skills, covering topics such as using AI in learning, using social media safely, and how to utilize the features of online software for learning and entertainment. For example, the Can Tho College Student Union established a volunteer team to teach computer science for free (regularly implemented during the summer every year)...

The Youth Union branches in schools across the city organized guidance for students on installing the "Doing Good Deeds" application launched by the Central Youth Union Council; and implemented many online competitions launched by Youth Union Councils at all levels, such as: Vietnamese Language Champion, Internet English Olympiad... Through these activities, students gradually become familiar with digital technology and learn how to easily and accurately search for learning information and news.

In the coming period, the city's Youth Union and Association branches will continue to coordinate with other units to organize many activities and movements to create more opportunities for children to access digital technology, develop a mindset of applying technology to learning, and solve problems in life.
