For Winter and Autumn wheat area in Hon Dat district, most of the area has no dyke systems or unstable levees, provincial government required districts to mobilize forces and means of reinforcement; repair structural dykes, routes at risk of landslides, flood overflowing; concentrate large-capacity pumps readily to pump drainage that prolonged adversely; organize teams to control and combine preparation of forces and means to response rapidly when bad situations occur.
The other localities in flood areas urgently harvested Autumn-Winter grains to prevent flood in the coming days, damage and impair post-harvest. Mobilize productive cooperatives, teams, and farmers to test, reinforce embankments, sluices; actively prepare means to pump flood water and prevent flood.
In addition, the province also directed Kien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to monitor and update the situation of flood events, timely notify to the local people to actively respond flood, reduce minimum damages, caused by floods, at the same time, prepared full forces and means of rescue as necessary.
According to Kien Giang Department of Irrigation, flood water rose quickly due to two overflowed weirs that are Tha La and Tra Su of An Giang province, discharged flood water back on 10/11/2013, combined with more rain and rising flood tide. Currently, flood waters swept the region at average level form 0.3-0.4 m.
Forecasting for the coming days, the flood continues to rise about 5cm/day and intensity in the coming 10 days, the water level in Long Xuyen Quadrangle will be higher than the current level from 0.4-0.5 m, menace seriously more than 2.000 ha of the late Summer-Autumn grains and 1.200 ha of Autumn-Winter grains in Hon Dat district and affect production of Autumn-Winter grains in city of Rach Gia, Chau Thanh, Giong Rieng, Go Quao.
