According to Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, the director of Department of Health (MOH), drug resistance is not a new problem but it is becoming dangerous and urgent for the world, particularly in developing countries.
The reason is indicated by the change of disease patterns, especially emerging diseases now using antibiotics should be considered a "weapon" of many doctors in treatment. Thence, the antibiotic use state increase, even abuse antibiotics.
Another reason leads to drug resistance is becoming increasingly exacerbated by people's awareness in the use of antibiotics.
Currently, the regulation of antibiotic use has adequate regulations which the pharmacy (pharmacist) sale antibiotics must be prescribed by a doctor. However, in our country, people are very easy to buy antibiotics to treat their diseases at home. This is becoming increasingly faster.
Experts warned that if man continues to use inappropriate antibiotics, overuse of antibiotics, drug antibiotic treatment when they have no infectious diseases will increase drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria, create scarcity, to be lack of new antimicrobial source. In the future, the country may face no cure capability if without having the appropriate interventions.
Currently, each year the world has thousands of death due to drug resistance and costs hundreds of billions of dollars for drug resistance. This is why WHO called on countries to join together in combating antimicrobial resistance, including Vietnam. |
