Launch SPI-NAMA Project Phase 2

In the morning of April 13, 2018, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Climate Change Department (MONRE), the Japan Development Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) co-organized the Inception Workshop for the second phase of the SPI-NAMA project to support planning and implementation of greenhouse gas emission mitigation activities.

Starting in 2015, the SPI-NAMA project, presided by MONRE, was initially implemented by JICA; Pilot reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Ho Chi Minh City. The result is the construction and implementation of a number of pilot projects on greenhouse gas emission reduction and step by step improvement of greenhouse gas emission inventory guidelines, focusing on the development of measurement and reporting procedures and verification (MRV) for some key areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
Following the results of the first phase, the project will continue to implement phase 2.
The workshop kicked off with the participation of the leaders of the Climate Change Department, JICA, Departments and branhes of Ho Chi Minh City, specialists, scientists and enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.
Delegates exchanged and discussed approaches and methods of measurement, inspection, management, monitoring and evaluation to provide a solid scientific basis and feasibility of each specific activity for the period of 2018-2019. The three main issues discussed are analyzing and proposing policies to effectively implement the Climate Change Action Plan with priority based on those with high emissions; pilot energy efficient use of the building; Continuing to implement the system of measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in traffic, implementation of greenhouse gas inventory at the city level. |
