On June 18, Qualcomm Vietnam Limited Company said that it has opened a new office and a new system of laboratories in Hanoi, including three laboratories: 1) RF Lab supports the design evaluation and Calibration; 2) The PPT laboratory performs tests of power consumption, efficiency and heat; 3) Camera service lab that provides camera adjustment service and basic image quality confirmation. This is also the first R&D facility of Qualcomm in Southeast Asia.

Qualcomm's new laboratory system - called Interoperability Laboratory - will provide testing services for Qualcomm partners - Qualcomm Vietnam's press release said. At the same time, the Laboratory also supports product development for candidates participating in the Qualcomm® Vietnam Innovation Challenge - a competition for Vietnamese startups specializes in product development in the areas of 5G, IoT, machine learning, smart cities, multimedia communications, wearables using mobile platforms and technologies launched by Qualcomm in late 2019.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam, “The model of laboratories will be the place to design, test and evaluate the quality of Make in Vietnam products - developed by Vietnamese technology enterprises themselves to enter the most fastidious markets like Europe or North America."

As one of the world's leading companies in the field of smartphone chip manufacturing, Qualcomm has entered Vietnam market quite early. Qualcomm's first office in Hanoi opened in 2003 and in Ho Chi Minh City in 2014. In the context of 5G technology growing in the recent years, Qualcomm is promoting cooperation with many Vietnamese businesses, such as Viettel, BKAV, VinSmart to develop 5G terminals.
