Vietnam has one more Global Geopark
On July 7, the Program and International Relations Committee of the 209th UNESCO Executive Council approved a Global Geopark Council Decision recognized Dak Nong Geological Park of Vietnam as Global Geological Park.

Dak Nong Geopark was established in 2015 with the goal of joining the global Geopark network in 2020.

In the recent years, relevant ministries and agencies, including the UNESCO National Committee of Vietnam, the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the People's Committee of Dak Nong Province, together with national and international experts co-ordinated, studied outstanding values of geology, geomorphology and biodiversity based on which the Dak Nong Geological Park dossier was built and submitted to UNESCO in November 2018.

With about 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites, including a system of nearly 50 caves with a total length of more than 10 km, craters, waterfalls and etc. Dak Nong Geological Park, the land of melodies , has long been famous as a rich red land with tropical forest ecosystems, which store the unique values of biodiversity, along with many unique cultural, geological and natural features as well as traces of prehistoric activity.

As a rule, in September 2019, the Global Geopark Council met in Indonesia and reviewed and assessed the overall records of the Global Geopark Network worldwide, in which there is Dak Nong Geological Park Profile of Vietnam.

On the basis of scientific evaluation of the nominations, based on the strict criteria of the Global Geopark, the Council unanimously recommended the UNESCO Executive Council to approve the nomination of Dak Nong Geological Park to join the global Geopark network.

With the recognition of UNESCO, Dak Nong Geopark becomes the 3rd Global Geopark in Vietnam, after Dong Van Plateau Global  Geopark (Ha Giang Province) and  Cao Bang Mountion water Global Geopark  (Cao Bang province).
