Mekong Delta: Saline drought remained high in March
Saline intrusion is highest in the estuaries of the Mekong River during the high tides on March 11-15 and March 27-31. The localities need to actively accumulate water as soon as possible to cope with the rising salinity during high tides.

According to the forecast of water resources in the Mekong Delta of the Southern Institute of Irrigation Science, during the week, salinity tends to decrease and increase again in the period of 12-15/3. Salt 4g / l can penetrate deepest in the main stream, estuaries of Mekong River 48-70km, 75-90km on Vam Co river and 50-55km on Cai Lon river. During the week, there is no rain, so the water source is completely dependent on the upstream, preventing strong winds that can cause sudden salinity increase in the estuaries of the Mekong River.

In the upper part of the Mekong Delta, the water source is currently convenient for production, taking advantage of the water intake in locations far from the trunk canal. Actively produce early winter-spring crop in order to reduce water use in dry months. Strengthen water supply solutions for highland areas in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien to prevent drought in these areas.

In the area between the Mekong Delta, the early emergence of salinity has affected the intake gates during high tides, and needs to actively accumulate water. When taking sweet or watering plants, it is necessary to closely check the salinity, especially for fruit trees. Saline intrusion is highest in the estuaries of the Mekong River during the month during the high tides of March 11-15 and March 27-31. The localities actively accumulate water as soon as possible to cope with the return of salinity during high tides.

In coastal areas, fresh water sources are at high risk of shortages in the middle of the dry season, saline intrusion is forecasted to remain high in the Mekong estuaries in March. Proactive solutions of water storage and household water supply. Strictly control saline control sluices and water storage for production to minimize salinity damage in March.
