BAT Vietnam implemented afforestation projects contributing to climate change response and protecting biodiversity in Vietnam
The Gaia and British American Tobacco (BAT) Nature Conservation Center in Vietnam has just organized a program for zoning and converting 40 hectares of alluvium into forest in the core area of Ca Mau Cape National Park. It is expected that more than 200,000 white mangrove trees will grow from the forest in the next 6 years.

The program was attended by Gaia staffs and volunteers, officials from the Ca Mau Cape National Park Management Board and especially more than 40 BAT managers and employees who moved from Ho Chi Minh City to directly participate in zoning activities, with the help of local people.

These activities are part of a cooperation project between BAT Vietnam and Gaia Nature Conservation Center in the period of 2022-2025 to green more than 120ha of forest, expected to include 4ha at Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve and 120ha in Ca Mau Cape National Park. Besides the main goal of helping to be Carbon neutral towards net zero emissions (through the amount of carbon absorbed), the program also brings many sustainable values and benefits to the community.

This year, BAT Vietnam and Gaia planted 2 hectares in Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve and 40 hectares in Ca Mau Cape National Park. This amount will be taken care of, monitored and reported by Gaia in the following years to ensure the survival rate of the tree at 80%. Next, the plan for the next years will be discussed and agreed by BAT Vietnam and Gaia, based on the preliminary results of the first year, each party's action plan as well as changes in the current status of forests in each locality.
