On August 24, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology held a seminar "Implementing the metrological assurance program in the inspection, calibration and testing of measuring instruments and measurement standards", The Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (SMQ, under Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology) is the implementing unit. Attending the workshop on the side of SMQ, there were Mrs. Vo Dinh Lien Ngoc - Deputy Director of the Department. On the side of the presenters, there were Mr. Phan Minh Hai - representative of the Professional Training Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality, Ministry of Science and Technology; Mr. Mai Phuoc Vinh - Head of SMQ Measurement Management Division; Mr. Truong Trung Tin - Head of Metrology Division - HCMC technical Standards, Metrology and Quality Center (SMEQ, under SMQ) and nearly 100 delegates from units operating in the field of inspection, calibration and testing in the City.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mrs. Vo Dinh Lien Ngoc - Deputy Director of SMQ's Department said that measurement activities play a particularly important role in social life, production activities, scientific research, and security and defense. Uniform and accurate measurement contributes to safety; protect people's health and protect the environment; promote the development of science and technology; enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and being an effective tool contributing to socio-economic development and international economic integration.
Specifically, on August 10, 2018, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 996/QD-TTg approving the project "Strengthening and renovating measurement activities to support Vietnamese enterprises to improve their competitiveness." international competition and integration in the period up to 2025, with orientation to 2030” (Project 996). Project 996 focuses on supporting businesses in a number of priority sectors and fields to effectively apply the Measurement Assurance Program to improve productivity, quality and competitiveness of products and goods.
To implement Project 996 in Ho Chi Minh City, in 2022 the Department of Science and Technology advised the City People's Committee to issue Decision No. 520/QD-UBND on the Plan “Strengthening and renovating activities measuring and supporting businesses in the city to improve competitiveness and international integration in the period up to 2025, with orientation to 2030”.
According to Mrs. Vo Dinh Lien Ngoc today, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are about 109 organizations participating in inspection, calibration and testing of measuring instruments and measurement standards. In which, there are 53 organizations designated by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality to inspect, calibrate and test measuring instruments and standards. |
