On February 25, the Institute for Agricultural Market and Institutional Research, coordinated with the Institute for Agricultural Environment to organize a workshop in order to announce a research report on “Current status and potential for agricultural solar power (ASP) development in Vietnam”. At the workshop, outstanding results from the research were presented, including information on the current status of ASP models being implemented, some typical models, as well as the potential for developing these models in the time and proposals to promote the development of ASP.
Experts have emphasized the clear economic efficiency of practical projects, such as the model of combining solar power on the roof of a livestock farm, growing ginseng under solar panels, and growing mushrooms under panels. These models not only open up development opportunities for the agricultural economy but also contribute to the country's net zero emissions target. However, developing renewable energy in Vietnam still faces many difficulties, including a lack of information from stakeholders, insufficient empirical evidence on suitable crops, and issues related to policy mechanisms.
To deploy the solar power model widely and sustainably, the research team has made a number of recommendations. It is necessary to develop communication programs to raise awareness, deploy pilot models, create a list of suitable agricultural products under solar panels and standard farming processes. In addition, building a solar power development strategy for each stage and improving policy mechanisms are also very important, along with connecting solar power investors with agricultural producers to create a favorable and effective environment.
