Journey to incubate green startup dreams

In the morning of March 26, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology organized an Advisory Council to accept the scientific and technological tasks to support the incubation of innovative projects under the 5th Industry and Trade Student Startup Idea Competition in 2024, with the theme "Innovation towards a green future."

Ms. Hoang Thi Thoa, head of the project and representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the program has attracted 123 projects from 27 universities and colleges nationwide. The goal is not only to support students in developing startup ideas but also to improve their business capacity, help them access real markets and seek opportunities to commercialize products.
According to Ms. Thoa, startup is not simply about generating new ideas but also about turning them into practical business models. To meet this need, HUIT’s incubation program is divided into two phases: pre-incubation and post-incubation. In the first phase, participating projects are supported by experts to identify core values, analyze the market and potential customers, and are trained in business administration and business planning. This helps start-up groups prepare well for the next stage of development.
After completing the pre-incubation phase, the projects moved on to product development and real-world testing. Startup teams finalized their business models, determined their pricing strategies and distribution channels. Some products were launched into the market and recorded revenue from their first customers. In addition, teams were supported to connect with businesses, investment funds, and received advice on intellectual property, patent registration and trademark protection, thereby creating a competitive advantage for their products.
