Green energy: Sshaping the future of sustainable development
The Green Energy Forum 2025 took place on March 31 in Hanoi, jointly organized by the Vietnam Economic Association and the Vietnam Clean Energy Association.

Overview of the forum

In his opening speech, Mr. Chu Van Lam, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Economic Association, emphasized that Vietnam aims for economic growth of over 8% in 2025 and double digits (over 10%) from 2026. To achieve this goal, Vietnam needs to accelerate the digital transformation and green transformation revolution, aiming to rapidly apply high technology and artificial intelligence. In particular, electricity demand is expected to increase by 12 to 16% per year, so it is necessary to adjust the strategy and planning for energy development.

One of the important goals of the Forum is to strengthen international cooperation in the energy sector. Vietnam is currently forecast to be the fastest growing economy in the Southeast Asian region (ASEAN) and is among the three fastest growing countries among 30 emerging and developing countries in Asia. This cooperation will not only help developed countries build renewable energy infrastructure but also facilitate access to new technology for poor countries, thereby minimizing the negative impacts of climate change and environmental issues.

In addition, Vietnam has set a target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 to cope with global climate change. This means that electricity demand will increase significantly as industries and services are electrified. Specific strategies as well as international cooperation will play an important role in realizing these broad goals, towards a sustainable energy future for Vietnam and the region.
