Launch of Australia–Vietnam Strategic Technology Center
On June 11, in Hanoi, the opening ceremony of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Center took place. This is a new initiative to promote 5G/6G research, cyber security and digital transformation.

The new centre marked a significant milestone in the journey of cooperation between Australia and Vietnam towards a secure and fully connected digital future. The opening event, there were senior leaders, including Ambassador Gillian Bird, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, and more than 300 guests from the governments, universities and businesses of both countries. The center not only demonstrates the deep commitment of the two countries under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, but also opens up many opportunities for innovative cooperation in the field of digital technology, such as 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and cyber security, to promote economic and social development of both countries.

Digital technology and digital trade are seen as key to driving growth, development and improving social welfare, including supporting women’s businesses. This is clearly reflected in the Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Bilateral Economic Engagement Strategy, which aims to facilitate digital transformation and innovation. This cooperation contributes to promoting the potential of both countries, towards the goal of building a sustainable and inclusive digital economy.

To realise this goal, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has provided initial support of AUD 2.1 million, while global telecommunications company Nokia has provided the necessary technical equipment for the Centre’s operations. With the support of such strategic partners, the center will become a platform to promote research, innovation and international cooperation, contributing to enhancing technological capacity and expanding global links between the two countries in the field of international digital transformation.
