The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is coordinating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to host the Sixth International Conference on Community-based Adaptation (CBA6) in Hanoi from April 19-22.
|
The conference aims to share experiences in community-based natural disaster management and adaptation between nations as well as organizations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event on April 19, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat highlighted the fact that Vietnam faces many types of disasters each year, such as storms, floods, and landslides.
Natural disasters and climate change have had a great impact on agriculture and rural development, especially on populations in highly vulnerable regions, including poor households and farmers.
To minimize risks, Vietnam has developed a system of policies, and of river and sea dykes, as well as planting and protecting upstream forests. It has also built a system for preventing floods and inundation.
