New materials kill bacteria 99%

Coating Polymer developed by bioengineers Mary Chan at the University of Singapore's Nanyang Technology and his colleagues have 99% more effective at killing bacteria and fungi on contact.
|
Materials may be used for contact lenses or medical devices such as catheters without disinfectants or antibiotics.
Under the microscope, the structure of the polymer coating is like a sponge. Positive charge on the surface coating will absorb bacteria like a magnet because of the surface containing negative bacteria then break down the cells and destroy them without harming the cells of the people.
Coating has been tested successfully with bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (golden staph) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (blue pus bacillus, a bacterium digested cornea).
Nanyang University, said Mary Chan coating can prevent the spread of pathogenic bacteria in hospitals and kitchens, these places are considered hot spots of drug-resistant bacteria.
