911 Response App Offers Callers Virtual Assitance
A new emergency response app places 911 operators virtually at the scene, allowing them to collect information and assist victims.
The app, designed by a team from the University of North Texas, sets up a link that gives emergency operators some control over the smartphone. Operators can send text to the phone to have it read aloud by the speakerphone, control some camera settings, and gather any vitals data, such as heart rate or blood pressure, which has been measured by the phone.
The caller can also place the phone on the victim's chest, which allows the operator to determine whether or not CPR should be started, or secure the phone to their hands to receive compression rate and depth monitoring. |
