Researcher Le Ngoc Lieu is an unique Vietnamese candidate and is one of 25 young scientists from around the world honored in Germany this year.

Giving speech at the award ceremony, Mr. Wilfried Kraus, Deputy Director General of the FMER directorate for sustainability, climate and energy belonging to Ministry of Education and Research emphasized the importance of new ideas in dealing with the world’s challenges.

He also stressed the importance of the Green Talents Program for future international science cooperation.

Dr. Le Ngoc Lieu focused on the purification of biofuels produced from crop residues and waste materials. She believes that energy is the most essential solution related to global population problems which appear to be increasing, and that renewable energy is the best way to solve these problems.

Le Ngoc Lieu’s work therefore offered a truly renewable solution to the world’s energy demand. “The most important benefit of renewable energy sources is the decrease of environmental pollution,” she said. “Liquid fuels, or biofuels, which are originally produced from biomass, can be renewed and are becoming our future transportation fuels”.

The jury highly evaluated the work of Le Ngoc Lieu, especially emphasizing the importance of biofuels as an alternative fuel to fossil fuels as well as her focus on energy-conservation techniques for the separation and purification of biomass materials.

The Organization of the German Green Talents Competition 2013 received 430 applicants from 80 countries around the world. 25 honored scientists will visit the top locations in sustainability research in Germany and have an opportunity to access the latest technology and exchange ideas with German experts.
