Gold Nanomesh is Next Step Towards Wearable Electronics
A gold nanomesh material that features the never-before seen combination of conductivity, transparency and flexibility could be the next step in foldable, rollable electronic devices.
A team from the University of Houston developed the new material by embedding a mesh of gold nanowires on a transparent elastomer. Although nanomeshes have been produced before, they were made of silver and copper wires, which tended to oxidize much more easily than gold and cause a drop in conductivity.
In stretch tests, the new material could withstand a strain of 160 percent with very little change in resistance. |
