It not only facilitates the development of provincial mining, aquaculture production, marine transportation and tourism and etc but also brings advantages to Soc Trang in developing wind energy with industrial scale.

Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang visited a wind power plant in Bac Lieu in 2013

So far, Soc Trang province has approved the investment policy for the 7 investors to implement wind power projects in the province with a total capacity around 600 MW, including: TRASESCO Company with wind power projects in Vinh Phuoc ward and Vinh Tan commune (Vinh Chau town); Lien Nghia Joint Stock Company with Mo O wind power projects (Binh Trung commune, Tran De district ); and etc.

Results of survey of this group showed that this region is one of the places where has the best conditions for wind power development in the country with potential scale up to 800 MW, wind is stable throughout the year, estimated total investment is more than $ 2 billion.

According to the roadmap of investors, period 2 the plant will increase capacity to 170 MW, the total investment is $ 436 million. This plant has a lifespan of more than 20 years, is expected to begin in early 2016 and operate period 1 in early 2017, each year the plant will provide approximately 485 GWh of electricity to the South (mainly Mekong Delta region).
