GE technology helps Vietnam "unlock" solar power
Along with Vietnam's vigorous development in solar power development, General Electric (GE) of the United States is offering innovative technology solutions that help unlock the potential of solar power.


Thanks to its effective cost and operation, GE's 1.5 kV technology is widely used around the world, replacing a set of 1 kV standard.


Rapid economic growth has put Vietnam under pressure for rising energy demand. Although it depends on traditional resources, such as coal, hydropower and gas to ensure energy security, Vietnam is moving towards a balanced energy mix through the development of renewable energy, in the long time, solar power is becoming a trend, especially as technology costs dip and switch to renewable energy is spreading around the world.

Vietnam is considered a country with large solar power resources, equivalent to other countries in the region have developed solar market, such as China, Thailand, Philippines or mature markets, such as Italy and Spain. The potential for solar energy in Vietnam is relatively large, with a total hours of lighting about 1,600 - 2,700 hours per year and annual solar radiation is about 4 - 5 kWh / m2 / day.

The National Electricity Development Plan for the period of 2011-2020 with a vision to 2030 (Power Plan VII) also identifies priorities for developing solar power, increasing the installed capacity by 6 - 7 MW by the end of 2017 to about 850 MW by 2020 and about 12,000 MW by 2030, equivalent to 1.6% and 3.3% of total power capacity.
