Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha worked Mr. Bruno Angelet, Ambassador - Head of EU Delegation in Vietnam.

Attending the meeting, there were Mrs. Cecilia Piccioni - Italian Ambassador in Vietnam; Mr. Pereric Högberg - Ambassador of Sweden in Vietnam. On behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, representatives of the leaders of the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology; Standing Office of the Mekong River Commission; Department of Water Resources Management; National Center for Water Resources Planning and Investigation; Department of International Cooperation; Ministry Office.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the situation and directions of cooperation between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the EU in the coming time. The main contents focused on Viet Nam's intentions and plans to participate in the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Water Resources and International Laters (Helsinki Convention 1992) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE Water Convention) and the cooperation and support of the EU towards Vietnam in the process of preparing for accession to this Convention.

The objective of the 1992 Helsinki Convention is to promote the overall management and conservation of cross-border freshwater ecosystems. The Convention contains binding provisions for the parties to prevent, control or minimize cross-border impacts, and to use cross-border water resources in an equitable way, ensure the sustainable management of water resources.
