ASEM Conference jointly responded to climate change in order to achieve sustainable development goals
In the morning of June 19, 2018, at the Muong Thanh Hotel, Can Tho City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Can Tho City People's Committee to organize "ASEM Conference on responding to climate change to achieve sustainable development goals and future directions."


Attending the meeting, there were Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Binh Minh, leaders of central ministries and departments, cities of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang and 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, research institutes from ASEM member countries, ambassadors, leaders of international organizations and the ASEM Secretariat.

At the conference, delegates listened to development reports in the context of climate change - linking climate change response to sustainable development goals; Climate change and global sustainability: Actions to narrow the gap; Financing for development: Climate change adaptation; shifted to a low carbon economy; Climate change solutions: Opportunities for sustainable development; solutions to solve the problem of low carbon and opportunities for green growth in the context of the fourth industrial revolution; Capacity building for climate change adaptation: Practices and lessons learned in Asia and Europe; climate change response: the role and involvement of stakeholders; Future Direction: Promoting Asia-Europe climate partners for sustainable development.

The conference has great significance in the context of Vietnam's efforts to implement important activities of the 11th ASEM Summit held in Ukraine two years ago. ASEM leaders have affirmed that the urgent and drastic action needed to implement Agenda 230 and the Paris Accords will bring the global economy towards a low emissions, adaptation to climate change. Leaders pledged to work together to fully and timely implement the goals set at the national, regional, and global levels, to ensure balance, agreed principles. In this regard, the initiative of this Conference reaffirmed the determination of ASEM members to realize the vision of the leaders to strengthen inter-regional cooperation and take more drastic action to deal with the consequences of climate change.
