In 2020, the CSI Index continues to be used as a basis for assessing the sustainable development level of enterprises participating in the program with 127 indicators, an increase of 29 indicators compared to the previous one.

The reason, according to Mr. Pham Hoang Hai - Head of Cooperation, Secretariat of Business Council for Sustainable Development of Vietnam VBCSD, where directly implementing the Program - is because CSI 2020 has been updated with many new points in accordance with the requirements of important free trade agreements that Vietnam has recently signed (such as CPTPP - Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership or EVFTA - Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement ), as well as important changes in labor and environmental management policies that greatly affect the operation of enterprises.

In particular, issues related to 17 sustainable development goals and the National Action Plan for implementation of the Agenda 2030  for Sustainable Development have been simplified and integrated into the CSI Index 2020.

Instead of focusing on 3 socio-economic and environmental fields like 2019, CSI 2020 includes 4 areas: Sustainable development, management, environment, and labor results.

However, Dr. Vu Tien Loc - Chairman of VCCI, Chairman of VBCSD - said that "127 CSI indicators are suitable for large and medium-sized enterprises, but also apply to micro and small enterprises, I think it is a luxury. Micro and small businesses cannot 'carry' 127 indexes, and have inappropriate indicators."
