Director General Dinh Huu Phi told with the new General Director of WIPO, Mr. Daren Tang (National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, June 11, 2020)
On June 11, 2020, Director Dinh Huu Phi had a call with Mr. Daren Tang, who was officially appointed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly to be the General Director of WIPO for the term of 2020 - 2026 on 8/5/2020.
Director Dinh Huu Phi said that he followed and was impressed with Mr. Daren Tang's speech right after being appointed, in which Mr. Tang oriented to develop WIPO into an intellectual property ecosystem (IP) global, inclusive, balanced, vibrant and forward-looking, benefiting all its member countries.
Based on the good cooperative relationship and mutual understanding, the Director and the new General Director of WIPO exchanged frankly and openly about the direction of cooperation in the coming time between National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam - WIPO on multilateral and bilateral aspects, between ASEAN - WIPO through the IP Working Group (AWGIPC) and between the NOIP - the IP Office in Singapore (IPOS).
In terms of multilateral cooperation with WIPO, Director General Dinh Huu Phi emphasized Vietnam's increasingly active and intensive participation in WIPO's activities and organizations, such as taking on the position of Chairman of the (2014), Chairman of the General Assembly of WIPO (2018-2019) and participated in discussions of important issues of the Executive Bodies / Specialized Committees of WIPO.
The Director emphasized that the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Technology to attend the WIPO General Assembly in the recent years has shown the interest of senior leaders of the Government of Vietnam on IP issues.
Regarding IPR institutions, Vietnam is a Member of 11 international treaties, including the Hague Agreement on the international registration of new industrial designs, which takes effect in Vietnam from December 30 / 2019. Director Dinh Huu Phi asked WIPO to consider training appraisers to handle La Hay applications, organize workshops to introduce the La Hay system for enterprises and industrial property representatives in Vietnam, especially WIPO soon complete and transfer the La Hay application management module to Vietnam.
In terms of bilateral cooperation, the Director once again affirmed the effective technical assistance of WIPO in developing the National IP Strategy to 2030 for Vietnam and implementing many other important projects, such as the WIPO IPAS Project, the IP Industrial Data Digitization Project, the Spindle and Spokes Project, the Tectonic IP Environment Project. Through this, the Director suggested Mr. Daren Tang as WIPO's General Director will continue to help Vietnam to successfully implement the IP Strategy and these Technical Assistance Projects.
Under the framework of ASEAN - WIPO cooperation, as the AWGIPC Chair, Vietnam wishes WIPO to continue supporting ASEAN countries to implement the Regional Technical Cooperation Plan (RTCIP) and the ASEAN Action Program on IP for the period of 2016 - 2025. |
