Attending the workshop, on the side of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, there were Mr. Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director of the National Office of Intellectual Property together with leaders and appraisers of the Trademark Appraisal Center, Geographical Indications Appraisal and International Brands Center, officers working in IP legislation and policies and related agencies. On the Canadian side is Professor Jeremy De Beer, an expert on intellectual property participating in the online form.
Deputy Director Tran Le Hong, on behalf of the NOIP's leader, gave the opening speech at the workshop, stating that the issue of protecting sound trademarks is not currently regulated in the current legal documents of Vietnam, so requiring Vietnam to conduct research, amend and supplement the IP Law and related legal documents. This is a challenge as Vietnam has no experience in protecting and enforcing the rights to non-traditional objects, such as sound marks. It will be very helpful to share Canadian experiences on sound trademark protection for Vietnam at this time.
During the workshop, the representative of the National Office of Intellectual Property, Mr. Nguyen Viet Ha, specialist of the Legal and Policy Department presented the draft of the revised IP Law on the content of sound trademark protection. Professor Jeremy De Beer briefly introduced the content of an independent research of the non-project, and at the same time gave recommendations for Vietnam related to sound trademarks.
At the end of the workshop, Deputy Director Tran Le Hong highly appreciated the expert's sharing and thanked Canada's support for the activities within the non-project framework. The National Office of Intellectual Property hopes that in the coming time, it will strengthen cooperation and receive support from Canada to deal with intellectual property issues that are of mutual concern. |
