"Protection of testing agricultural chemical data" within the non-project framework "Support the implementation of the CPTPP Agreement in the field of intellectual property" Workshop

In the framework of the Canada-sponsored Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Implementation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in the field of intellectual property ”funded by Canada, February 26, 2021 at In Hanoi, the National Office of Intellectual Property held a workshop on "Protection of experimental data on agricultural chemical products."

Attending the workshop, from the Vietnamese side, there were Mr. Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director of Intellectual Property Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tin, Deputy Director, Department of Science, Technology and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development together with leaders and staffs of functional units under the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. On the Canadian side, there is an online participation of Professor Jeremy De Beer, an expert on intellectual property.
Representative of the Vietnamese side, Deputy Director of the Department of Intellectual Property Tran Le Hong delivered the opening speech at the Workshop, stating that the protection of testing data on agricultural chemical products is one of the issues specified in the chapter on Intellectual Property of the CPTPP, countries participating in the CPTPP, including Vietnam, are committed to providing greater protection for test data and confidential data used in the registration or licensing of agricultural chemical products. Specifically, the authority must grant the data creator a monopoly use of the data used in an agrochemical license application for 10 years.
At the end of the workshop, Deputy Director Tran Le Hong highly appreciated the expert's sharing and thanked Canada's support for the activities within the non-project framework. The National Office of Intellectual Property hopes that in the future, it will increase cooperation and receive support from Canada to resolve intellectual property issues that are of mutual concern. At the same time, the National Office of Intellectual Property also hopes that in the coming time, relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to coordinate with the Department to well implement the work of perfecting the law and state management in the relevant intellectual property. |
