In the morning of August 16, 2023, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology of held a mid-term review council meeting on the project "Application of biotechnology to select and breed cucumber, bitter melon and green bean with high yield and good quality for Can Tho city". The council was led by Mr. Truong Hoang Phuong - Deputy Director of Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology. The study is carried by PhD student Nguyen Trong Phuoc. The Mekong Delta High-Tech Agricultural Research Institute is an implementing agency.

Overview of the meeting
Research contents include: Exploiting starting materials and conducting crossbreeding for breeding; Renovating the screening process for genetic materials resistant to fungal and bacterial diseases on some important vegetables, such as bitter melon, cucumber, and green bean using advanced techniques in biotechnology; Innovating the genetic material screening process using molecular markers (DNA maker) in breeding; Testing the genetic stability of hybrid pairs and the adaptability of varieties in a number of different ecological regions; Develop new seed cultivation process; Deploying trial production of 3 inherited and perfected plant varieties from the project, applying innovative farming and post-harvest handling technologies.
It is expected work to be implemented in the near future: Continue to implement contents 4, 5 and 6.
The project evaluation council has implemented content 1, 2 and 3 in accordance with the content and progress. However, the Council also made some suggestions for the research team to edit and complete the remaining contents according to the explanatory outline. |
