At the workshop "Grac - Applying 4.0 technology to digitize the waste management network and online payment", organized by Ho Chi Minh City Center for Science and Technology Information and Statistics on September 15, Mr. Nguyen Trong Minh, Director of Grac Technology Joint Stock Company, said that currently, every day the volume of domestic solid waste generated nationwide is about 65 tons/day, of which, Ho Chi Minh City is 9,500 tons/day. 80% of waste in large cities is mainly treated by landfilling, which has a long-term impact on the ecological environment.
Therefore, landfills are overloaded and polluted. Besides, dumped secretly wastes are common and difficult to control in localities. Meanwhile, the control and management of this type of waste is still limited, leading to the risk of negative impacts on the environment and human health.
According to Mr. Minh, that is because most waste collection units and data management and household lists are mainly based on paper books and computer files. These data are easily lost and difficult to restore. The current form of garbage collection is mainly to go to each household and collect in cash, so it takes a lot of personnel, time, transparency is not high and it is difficult to separate collection fees (transportation, treatment, taxes, and etc.) to pay to the state budget in accordance with regulations.
In addition, there are not many information channels for people to report cases of environmental sanitation violations, affecting local environmental sanitation management. The cost of propagating waste classification according to state regulations is expensive and consumes a lot of resources due to the need to print many leaflets.
Mr. Minh said that currently, GRAC software is applied in Ho Chi Minh City, such as districts 3, 4, 7, Go Vap, Binh Thanh, Binh Chanh district, and etc. helping to reduce 10 - 20% of waste paper and 10% of wastes in landfills and increase recycling collection rates by 30%. |
