HCMC: Growing hydroponic vegetables in greenhouses triples profits
The recirculating hydroponic model implemented by Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Agriculture Research and Development Center has yielded profits three times higher than growing on substrates. This model allows control of environmental conditions in the greenhouse, helping vegetables avoid the effects of weather and pests.

The experimental results showed that the actual yield (kg/100m²/crop from 1-2.5 months) was higher in the hydroponic group than in the control model, with celery harvested at 607.6 kg; basil at 297.9 kg; cinnamon at 298.9 kg; basil at 241.6 kg; perilla at 360 kg; and Oregano at 351.2 kg, an increase of 16-18%. Revenue on an area of 600m² reached nearly 19 million VND/crop, 1.45 times higher than 13 million VND/crop in the control model; profit was more than 5 million VND/crop, 3.17 times higher than 1.63 million VND/crop in the control model.
The implementation team organized training courses to introduce the model to people and businesses, creating opportunities to replicate the model and increase income for the community.
