The giant moon lute made of salt is on display at Hung Vuong Square during the Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025
|
The moon lute is 4.1m high and 3.5m wide. The creator is Mr. Ho Chi An, a former teacher at Long Dien Tien Primary School, Dong Hai District, Bac Lieu Province, made with more than 500kg of white salt, black salt and pepper salt. Mr. An said: "When I heard that Bac Lieu Province was organizing the Vietnam Salt Festival, this was a big event while my hometown had abundant raw materials, so I came up with the idea of making a moon lute out of salt."
After 41 days with 10 workers and 9 iterations, Mr. An's unique salt lute was completed. Mr. An explained: “The frame of the lute is stylized, looking like a sailboat sailing out to sea, welcoming the beautiful things. Many details represent the rise of the salt industry. The curves along the body of the instrument are a harmonious flow from above to represent the salt industry reaching its peak, and connecting with the Southern "don ca tai tu". The base of the instrument is stylized in the shape of the ocean, on the surface of the base is a salt field. On top is the image of the national flag, the horizontal lines symbolize the provinces joining hands towards each other".
