Initially, his family grew rice 3 crops per year, but due to unstable rice prices and low economic efficiency, he researched and learned from farmers and experts to start growing watermelon from 2020. After a period of applying the technique and taking care of the right process, the model has brought in high income, with an average profit of 40 to 60 million VND per crop on an area of ​​6 hectares, and he earns more than 300 million VND per year.

During the process of growing watermelons, Mr. Thanh emphasized the importance of mastering the care process for each variety of watermelon and soil improvement, because these are the factors that determine productivity. Using mulch, fertilizing properly, as well as paying special attention to disease prevention, such as root rot and yellow leaves, are key factors for the watermelon field to grow well and harvest on time. The time for the watermelon plant to mature from planting to harvest is about 60 days, and about 20 days after planting, he begins to rearrange the shoots to facilitate pruning and selecting fruit. Thanks to that, each crop of watermelons has a high yield, even fruit and meets the requirements.

With this success, Mr. Thanh realized that the watermelon growing model is suitable for households with little land, low cost, quick capital recovery time and clear economic efficiency. He is also willing to share his experience, guide the care and planting techniques of watermelon for other farmers who want to develop this model to increase their income. He believes that expanding the watermelon growing model will not only help increase family income but also contribute to a sustainable shift in crop structure, suitable for the conditions of many farming households in the area.
