Mr. Tran Thien Thanh had a high income thanked to the durian growing model.
Previously, his family grew 2.5 hectares of mango, but then switched to growing durian to ensure stable economic efficiency. In 2019, he cleared 1.5 hectares of mango to grow durian, choosing high-yield varieties, such as Ri6 and Monthong based on knowledge from training courses and successful models, combined with practical experience.
After a year of care, his durian trees grew well in accordance with the soil, and he decided to expand the area to grow specialized durian. Currently, his garden is giving positive results, in 2024 he harvested nearly 22 tons of fruit, sold nearly 1.3 billion VND, making a profit of more than 1 billion after deducting expenses. He also researched and applied early flowering techniques, by tightening water and fertilizing in the 9th and 10th lunar months, helping the durian trees flower and bear fruit earlier than usual, while investing in an automatic watering system to save labor and improve productivity and fruit quality.
Thanks to synchronous technical solutions, Mr. Thanh's durian garden always achieves high productivity and good quality. It is expected that by the end of May 2025, he will harvest about 20 tons of fruit. His success not only helps his family stabilize the economy but also motivates and supports many members in the community to develop effective and sustainable crop models.
Thanks to Mr. Thanh's effective durian growing model, many farmers in Truong Lac ward have also converted crops, creating an expansion of this model. In 2020, Truong Phat agricultural cooperative was established with Mr. Thanh as Deputy Director, currently having more than 23 hectares of durian varieties Ri6, Monthong, and 22 members. The cooperative has been supported with growing area codes and consumption contracts with export enterprises, each crop harvests about 600 tons of fruit, bringing in income from several hundred million to more than 1 billion VND/year for members.
