At the regular socio-economic meeting held in March 2026, Mr. Le Hong Vinh, Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, requested a review of resource extraction dossiers, legal procedures, and procedural processes.
"Projects for mineral extraction, such as dredging lakebeds, are permitted but extended two or three times, rendering them meaningless in increasing lake capacity. They need to be reviewed to ensure they meet requirements," Mr. Vinh emphasized.
Following this meeting, Quang Tri province issued a directive to its departments, agencies, and localities to strengthen the review and tighten management of mineral exploitation and extraction activities in the area.
According to the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, state management of mineral resources in the province has had many shortcomings in recent times. Illegal mining, mining exceeding capacity, or mining outside the permitted area still occurs. Some businesses have not strictly complied with environmental protection regulations.
These problems not only cause budget losses but also pose a risk of landslides, affecting the environment and local security and order.
The Provincial People's Committee requests that departments, agencies, and local authorities proactively review their functions and responsibilities; strengthen inspections and checks; promptly detect and strictly handle violations in the exploitation and extraction of minerals; strictly control the transportation and trading of sand and gravel of unknown origin; and resolutely handle violations in accordance with the law.
The Chairpersons of the People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones shall be held responsible if illegal mineral exploitation occurs in their areas without focused action, if it is allowed to persist, or if there is a delay in addressing the issue upon receiving complaints. |
