Can Tho's education sector accelerates digital transformation
Aiming to build a modern education system that meets the demands of innovation, the Education and Training sector of Can Tho City is promoting a comprehensive and synchronized digital transformation in management, teaching, and learning. This creates a foundation for improving the quality of education.

Actively applying technology

According to the leaders of the Can Tho City Department of Education and Training, in the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year, the sector proactively and seriously implemented key tasks as directed by the Central Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, the City Party Committee, the City People's Council, and the City People's Committee. Guidance and management were carried out promptly, flexibly, and appropriately in the context of the first school year implementing many major policies and the two-tiered local government model. Professional tasks were organized synchronously across all levels of education; the quality of mass education continued to be maintained, and advanced education achieved many positive results. Notably, digital transformation throughout the sector was actively implemented, contributing to improving the quality of education.

Accordingly, the sector continues to finalize the plan for digitizing original diploma and certificate records; deploying digital libraries and digital student records at primary, secondary, and high school levels; and digitizing issued diploma and certificate data. The sector also coordinates the implementation of career guidance and entrepreneurship programs, digital English, and the VitanSchool software; organizes training for administrators and teachers on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching at general education schools; and continues to operate the Smart Education Operations Center, connecting and sharing data with the city... At the same time, it directs educational institutions to promote digital transformation solutions and apply information technology (IT) to effectively serve teaching and learning activities.

Tan Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School is one of the city's schools actively applying information technology and digital transformation in management, teaching, and learning. We had the opportunity to visit the school while students in class 6A1 were doing an outdoor practical exercise on determining direction in Geography, led by Ms. Tra Thi Hong, the school's History and Geography teacher. She divided the class into small groups and set specific times for submitting the results of the practical exercises, from which the teacher evaluated the groups. According to Ms. Tra Thi Hong, before organizing the practical exercises, she equipped the students with sufficient theoretical knowledge about the structure, principles, and use of a compass. Each lesson was prepared with electronic lesson plans, designed with PowerPoint presentations and illustrative images and videos, making the lesson visual and engaging, helping students to learn quickly and understand more deeply. Tran Hong Lam, a student in class 6A1, said that during the theory lesson, the teacher applied information technology to thoroughly guide students on the structure, use of a compass, and determining directions. Thanks to learning with digital technology, students understand lessons faster and remember them longer.

According to teachers at Tan Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School, applying information technology to teaching makes lessons more visual and engaging, helping students absorb knowledge quickly and deeply. Therefore, depending on the specifics of each subject, teachers regularly prepare electronic lesson plans, design PowerPoint presentations, and use appropriate images, videos, and documentaries to illustrate and help students visualize and remember the lessons better. Each classroom is equipped with a TV by the school administration and has a stable internet connection to support teaching and learning. Ms. Tra Thi Hong shared: “Although we were initially unfamiliar with technology, my colleagues and I always proactively learn and improve our skills to effectively apply it to teaching, helping students access technology and learn better.”

Currently, all staff and teachers at Tan Thanh Ethnic Boarding Junior High School utilize information technology (IT) in their management and teaching activities. To achieve this, in addition to investing in standard information infrastructure and equipment, the school has also developed open educational resources and established a team to support the application of IT and digital transformation. This team is responsible for assisting teachers in preparing electronic lesson plans, organizing PowerPoint presentations, creating electronic gradebooks, and conducting online meetings. Mr. Lieng Hien Su, the school principal, stated that due to the school's unique circumstances and the age difference among teachers, implementing IT applications in teaching and management has been challenging. However, the school staff has made great efforts and shown determination, and the school has now successfully applied IT in professional management and other school activities through the Vnedu software and other tools.

Aiming to improve the quality of education.

Depending on the specific characteristics of each school and locality, the application of information technology and digital transformation in educational activities is implemented appropriately, aiming to improve the quality and effectiveness of education. At Nguyen Viet Hong High School, in addition to actively applying information technology and digital transformation in teaching and learning, the school leadership utilizes social media (TikTok, Zalo, Facebook) to interact with students in learning, playing, and training. According to the Board of Directors of Bui Huu Nghia High School, the school has always created conditions for staff and teachers to work and study to improve their skills, providing support in terms of time and funding, especially for newly recruited teachers. The school has invested in network infrastructure, established an online management system, formed an IT team to support teachers, and ensured interoperability with the systems of the Department and the Ministry of Education and Training.

Within the framework of the recent review of the first semester and implementation of tasks for the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year of the city's Education sector, representatives from the Department and schools stated that promoting information technology and digital transformation plays a crucial role in management, teaching, and learning activities. In the coming time, the city's Education sector will continue to improve the database, connect synchronously with the city's shared data warehouse and the Ministry of Education and Training; build a digital learning resource repository, an online question bank, an online learning platform, and a digital library; and implement the synchronous use of digital student records and digital diplomas. At the same time, it will encourage the application of big data and artificial intelligence in education. In addition, the sector will implement the Digital Competency Framework, enhance the digital competence of teachers; launch the "Digital Literacy Movement," and strengthen digital citizenship skills education for primary school students. Continue implementing the centralized online examination model using chip-embedded Citizen Identity Card authentication and the school management system according to Project 06 in Can Tho City.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, requested that all levels and sectors continue to thoroughly implement the resolutions of the Central Government and the action program of the City Party Committee and People's Committee in promoting digital transformation and investing in synchronized infrastructure. The entire sector needs to focus on improving the quality of comprehensive education, innovating teaching methods linked to moral education and skills development for students. In addition, special attention should be paid to developing a team of teachers to meet the requirements of current integration and digitalization.
